Sarah Devika Sumnauth

Sarah Devika Sumnauth holds an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies specializing in Environment and Culture. She began her career as the founder of Urban Minerals, an award-winning sustainable beauty brand, before transitioning into sustainability advocacy and public service. Currently an Executive Assistant in the federal Labour Program, she champions environmental responsibility, social equity, and workplace wellness.

She also sits on the York University Alumni Board, chairs its Scholarships and Awards Committee, and leads the York University Sustainability Alumni Network (YUSAN). Through her work, Sarah fosters innovation, mentorship, and inclusivity, driving meaningful change in sustainability and equity.

Miranda Baksh

Miranda Baksh is an environmental advocate, public speaker, and one of York University’s “Top 30 Changemakers Under 30.” She founded The Community Climate Council, a Brampton-based nonprofit, to champion climate literacy and civic action, organizing rallies and educational initiatives for local impact.

Holding a Master’s in Environmental Studies, her studies in Costa Rica and Belize shaped her global-to-local climate focus, including efforts to support communities like Guyana, her parents’ country of origin. Miranda works with Environmental Defence, serves on boards for Climate Action Network and Sustainability Network, and offers facilitation and public speaking services through MirandaBaksh.com to empower future sustainability professionals

Geni Peters

Geni Peters, PhD

Director of Research

EcoCanada

Geni Peters is Director of Research at ECO Canada, a not-for-profit with a mission to ensure that Canada has the environmental workforce it needs in these challenging times.

An economist with a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, she is responsible for the management, execution and delivery of environmental labour market information and national occupational standards projects, working with an army of professionals comprised of staff, consultants, strategic advisors and subject matter experts.

Tal Potechin (He/Him/His)

Hi Lions, my name is Tal Potechin and I am a Career Educator with York University's Career Centre.  I am fascinated by the diverse talents and accomplishments that York University students have when they come visit us for Career Centre services.

With a bachelor's degree specializing in Psychology, (Western University) and a Post-Graduate in Career Development (George Brown College) I am passionate about helping students craft persuasive professional narratives. Together we will work on articulating your accomplishments to prepare you for a meaningful career.

The Green Career Fair is an event dedicated to connecting students, alumni, and job seekers with employers in the environmental and sustainability sectors. It provides an opportunity for attendees to explore career options, network with industry professionals, and learn about job and internship opportunities. 

The fair is open to students, alumni, and anyone interested in pursuing a career in the environmental field. Whether you’re looking for full-time positions, internships, or volunteer opportunities, this event is a great place to connect with potential employers  

Bring multiple copies of your resume, a professional attitude, and a willingness to network. Dress in business casual attire, and come prepared to talk about your skills, experience, and interest in environmental careers.  

Expect a busy and dynamic atmosphere with a variety of employers showcasing their organizations. There will be booths set up by each employer, where you can learn more about available positions, internship programs, and career paths in the environmental sector. You’ll have the chance to network, ask questions, and hand out your resume. 

Attendance is free for all students and job seekers.

Many employers will provide contact information at their booths, so be sure to ask for details on how to follow up. Additionally, you can visit company websites or reach out via LinkedIn to continue networking after the event  

Yes, you can apply for jobs at the Green Career Fair! Many employers will have job openings, internships, and volunteer opportunities available. You can speak with recruiters, learn more about their organizations, and submit your resume directly to them during the event. Be sure to come prepared with multiple copies of your resume and be ready to discuss your qualifications and interests. 

Since this is a Green Career Fair, sustainable transportation options like public transit and biking are encouraged. If you do require parking, spots are available at Arboretum Lane. Follow the posted instructions or use the Honk app for payment and parking management. For more details, visit the York University Parking Services website.  

Honk Mobile is a parking app that allows users to pay for parking and manage their parking sessions digitally. By using the app, users can also extend parking sessions remotely and receive notifications when their time is about to expire. For more details, visit the Honk Mobile website.

Cost (maximum): $2.50/half-hour ($20.00 max) 
Weekday Evenings: $2.50/half-hour ($8.00 max after 6:00 p.m.) 
Saturday: $7.00 flat 
Sunday: $5.00 flat
