Virtual High School Lecture: "Being Homeless during COVID-19:  Overcoming NIMBYism and Building Inclusive Communities" with Sandalwood SS

November 23, 2020 @ 1:30 pm - 2:15 pm

The Recruitment and Admissions team invite Sandalwood SS to connect with us for our virtual high school lecture "Being Homeless during COVID-19:  Overcoming NIMBYism and Building Inclusive Communities" by Prof. Luisa Sotomayor.

With the cost of rent through the roof, Toronto is currently facing an unprecedented homelessness crisis that has only been aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This lecture explains the current causes of homelessness and the challenges cities encounter to address the issue in the face of COVID-19. It also discusses rising neighbourhood opposition–or Not-in-My-Back-Yard (NIMBY) responses–to emergency shelters and other needed services for homeless people and presents strategies to build more inclusive communities from an urban planning perspective.

This is a closed event.
