Film-Screening: The Changing Face of Iceland by Dr. Mark Terry

Join us for a film and panel discussion on The Changing Face of Iceland with renowned filmmaker Dr. Mark Terry as he presents a polar documentary on the impacts of climate change on the island nation of Iceland. Touching the Arctic Circle at its north end, changes to Iceland's glaciers, land, flora, fauna, fish, economy, and people are examined. The film also includes exclusive footage of the recent eruptions of Fagradalsfjall, an active volcano only 40 km from Iceland's capital, Reykjavík.

Opening Remarks:
Hlynur Guðjónsson is the Ambassador of the Embassy of Iceland in Ottawa. Prior to Canada, he served as the Consul General and Trade Commissioner at the Consulate of Iceland in New York, Trade and Investment office where he was responsible for trade and investment covering both the United States and Canada.

Panelists:
- Dr. Mark Terry is a documentary filmmaker and completes his trilogy of documentary films revealing the impacts of climate change on the Arctic and Antarctica. His two films -- The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning (2009) and The Polar Explorer (2011), have been aired on CBC in Canada and released in the US by PBS, as well as screened at the United Nations’ climate summits.

- Ms. Melanie Martyn makes her documentary film producing debut with The Changing Face of Iceland. A devoted environmentalist and long-time colleague of Mark Terry's, Ms. Martyn is excited to have been given this opportunity to contribute to Dr. Terry's work with the United Nations.

- Dr. Kathy Young is Full Professor at York University’s Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change. She is a physical geographer and hydrologist whose work has focused on wetland and snow hydrology in northern Canadian environments. More recently, she has been exploring the impact of dust and volcanic ash on the hydrology of slopes and wetlands in Iceland.
