Description: The course focuses on the development of geographic thought and its applications to contemporary social and environmental issues. After an introduction to the historical development of geographic enquiry, the course traces the intellectual history of Western geographic thought in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Particular emphasis is placed on the paradigm shift to 'critical geographies' and its current relevance.
