Ontario, Quebec: Electricity and Climate Change - Advancing the Dialogue

The project outlined actions to "advance the dialogue" on the topic of electricity sector collaboration between Ontario and Quebec by organizing and hosting two events (one in Toronto and one in Montreal), that incorporated perspectives from academia, industry and the non-profit sector, and held under the Chatham House rules to promote more open dialogue between stakeholders. The aim was to deepen understanding about the political, economic, environmental and technical barriers and opportunities associated with strengthening the relationship between the Ontario and Quebec electricity systems, particularly in the context of the potential for wider collaboration between the provinces around climate change and transitions to a low-carbon economy. A summary report of the proceedings are at: http://sei.info.yorku.ca/files/2013/03/Advancing-the-Dialogue-Final-Report-071415-Translated-1.pdf . Funding: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), $25,000.
